Pravin Gordhan has replaced well respected Trevor Manuel and now fills the "new shoes" as South Africa's finance minister.
Trevor Manuel is now to head the new National Planning Commission after much conspiracy about his resignation earlier this year.
Gordhan and Zuma were at Robben Island together in the early '70s when he was the leader of the Natal Indian Congress. A few years after his release, he then joined the SA Communist Party.
His impressive track record includes being sacked from King Edward VIII where he was studying for a degree in Pharmacy at the University of Durban Westville in 1981. He was also jailed a number of times for various political activities during the 80's in 1991 he was again arrested for terrorism and the illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
He became a member of parliament in 1994 with many of his comrades of the ANC including Zuma.
As a member of the ANC he served on various committees in the provincial government and housing. The high point was in 1998 when he was appointed as the commissioner of the SARS.
Gordhan, now fills the role of SA's new finance minister and will be the guiding light behind the SA economy during these uncertain times ...
