South Africa's consumer inflation retreated back in line with the Reserve Bank's 3 to 6 percent target band in February 2010. This news could see further interest rate cuts this year.
The easing to 5.7 percent year-on-year is a three-year low. In January CPI was 6.2 percent.
Statistics South Africa said headline CPI stood at 0.6 percent on a monthly basis in February versus January's 0.3 percent.
Food inflation led the slowdown, declining 0.4 percent month-on-month and easing to 1.8 percent compared with the same month last year.
