Discovery Health Rates for 2017
The
close off for upgrades is 15th December 2016. All medical aid
companies have been forced to increase tariffs for 2017 due to medical
inflation. Discovery has had the lowest increases out of all schemes for 2017
with an average of 10% across plans.
However, the Coastal Core plan will be increasing by 14.9%. This
is mainly due to increased claims and the cost of coastal hospitals has reached
a parity with inland hospitals.
Discovery has reacted to try make medical aids affordable by
offering the Classic Smart Plan and the Essential Smart Plan as an affordable
alternative to Core and Saver Members.
In summary:
GAP COVER:
It is advisable to have medical GAP cover on ALL plans,
especially if you are going downgrade. If you do not have GAP cover please
advise immediately.
Coastal Core Members:
Should consider the following plans for 2017:
Single Members: Upgrade Essential Smart Plan
Families: Upgrade Classic Smart Plan
Added Benefits: Unlimited GP Benefit, Dental Check Up and Cover
for Scopes with co-payments.
Network Hospitals for pre-planned procedures.
Possible Alternative for downgrade:
Essential Delta Core
Network Hospital for pre-planned procedures.
